About us
Within the Faculty of Sciences in Novi Sad are operating two research groups. Laboratory of X-ray diffraction “Dr Bela Ribar” is located at the Department of Physics and has modern equipment for testing of single-crystal and powder samples. Laboratory of Coordination Chemistry is situated at the Department of Chemistry, Biochemistry and Environmental Protection, and the group members are using single crystal X-ray diffraction as a method of structural characterization of the synthesized compounds.

- Single crystal X-ray diffractometer Gemini S (former Oxford Diffraction, now Agilent Technologies) equipped wit two co-mounted X-ray tubes (Cu Kα i Mo Kα) and liquid nitrogen cooling unit Cryojet HT system that allows working at 90–490 K.
- Rigaku MiniFlex 600 diffractometer for qualitative and quantitative analysis of polycrystalline samples.
- High-temperature chamber Anton Paar HTK2 for powder samples with vacuum pump Edwards.

History
Laboratorija za rendgensku difrakciju osnovana je 1973. godine u okviru Instituta za fiziku, Prirodno-matematičkog fakulteta u Novom Sadu. Direktor Instituta dr Slobodan Carić inicirao je formiranje ove Laboratorije u okviru predmeta Fizika čvrstog stanja na završnoj godini studija fizike. Osnivač i glavni nosilac aktivnosti i rada same Laboratorije je bio dr Bela Ribar koji je doktorirao na Departmanu za kristalografiju u Bernu, Švajcarska.
Intenzivnim i višegodišnjim radom u koji je uključivao mlade ljude, dr Bela Ribar je oformio prepoznatljivu grupu uglavom diplomiranih fizičara koji su se bavili kristalografijom. Većina njih je odbranila magistarske radove iz kristalografije, a u okviru postdiplomskih studija na fizici u Beogradu na smeru Fizika kondenzovanog stanja. Većina doktorskih disertacija je odbranjena na Prirodno-matematičkom fakultetu u Novom Sadu. Time je formiran tim strucnjaka koji se i danas bavi raznim oblastima kristalografije. Za razvoj ove discipline kao i razvoj interdisciplinarnosti kristalografije u ostalim naukama najviše zasluge pripale su Prof. Beli Ribaru koji je 1987. godine izabran za dopisnog člana Srpske akademije nauka i čijom zaslugom ova Laboratorija i danas postoji u malo izmenjenoj formi i pod nazivom »Dr Bela Ribar« upravo u ime i sećanje na njenog osnivača.
